LARRY COMBS* AT GORBY'S MUSIC, SATURDAY, APRIL 4TH
*Just retired as Principal Clarinetist – Chicago Symphony
Join us at Gorby's Music Saturday, immediately following the Master Class with Larry Combs at West Virginia State University (about 3:45 PM) for a special select viewing of rare clarinets, clarinet mouthpieces, books, and doctoral papers on the clarinet from the private collection and research library of Gorby's Music.
Among the instruments that will be on display:
1) A reproduction of a Jacob Denner Baroque (ca. 1700) clarinet in C in Turkish boxwood with four joints and two brass keys in A=415, made for us by Brian Ackerman in England.
2) The very strange McIntyre system Bb clarinet.
3) An Albert system clarinet made by Albert.
4) The Stubbins clarinet, made by Leblanc with an extra vent for the throat Bb.
5) A soprano clarinet in Ab – very rare.
6) One of the ultra-fine German Oehler system clarinets as used today in German symphony orchestras.
7) Three soprano clarinets in Eb, D and C.
8) The “Atomic” clarinet plus many more clarinets and the world's rarest saxophone in the key of F with a low A key and range to high G.
Larry Combs will be performing with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 PM on April 4 at
the Bible Center Church, Route 119, Charleston. Call 304-346-0431 for tickets.
